Our method for measuring the dispersion of asphaltenes is based on ASTM D7061-06, but has been adapted for testing potential Asphaltene dispersants at a range of concentrations. It uses a piece of apparatus called a Turbiscan. The Turbiscan measures transparent and opaque dispersions.
Asphaltenes are a component of crude oil and can be highly problematic in field and refinery operations as their solubility in crude oil varies on crude oil compositions and external conditions such as temperature and pressure. Asphaltene deposits in pipelines can cause severe blockages, holding up production. Asphaltene dispersants are therefore often used in the industry to ensure asphaltenes remain soluble in crude oil.
Application note: We use our Turbiscan to measure many more of our product functionalities. Contact us for more information.
